1)      PRE-PROJECT – environmental impact assessment, project development, incorporation of existing environment into design, project scoping.

2019/20 LEAD FIELD ECOLOGIST – INDONESIA, Sumabawa Island, for PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara, engaged by Workroom B Ltd. The main copper and gold mining company on Sumabawa Island island aims to developing a tourism on the west coast. Carry out baseline ecological and habitat mapping of 500 km2 of the island. Identified key habitats, and community habitat uses that should be conserved and managed to ensure sustainable tourism development.

2016    LEAD BOTANIST – MALAYSIA, Sabah, for UNDP engaged by Daemeter Consulting. The aim was to assess the conservation importance of the 400 km2 Kalabakan Forest Reserve for conversion to oil palm. Detailed plots and inventories identified key areas of High Conservation Value. Based on the report conversion of the forest reserve was abandoned.

2012 FIELD BOTANIST – CAMBODIA. Danish-Cambodian Expedition to study the Prey Long Lowland Evergreen Reserve in Central Cambodia. Month long expedition to inventory of the flora of the Prey Long Forest reserve. The expedition team comprised of botanists from University of Copenhagen, University of Texas, Kew Gardens, Chiang Mai University, Forestry Administration Cambodia and the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

2011/14 FIELD BOTANIST  –  THAILAND, Royal Forest Department of Thailand. Eight field trips (100 days) to collect Memecylon specimens for ongoing taxonomic revision for the family.

2018 LEAD BOTANIST – SINGPAPORE for Housing Development Board (HDB) engaged by Arboculture Pvt Ltd to identify and map conservation significant mangrove plants on 64ha of primary mangrove and coastal forest on Pulau Tekong, Singapore. Fieldwork was for 60 days over three months. The site involved all different mangrove types found in Southeast Asia, including critically endangered species. Seeds were collected and a transplant plan was devised.

2016-2020 CONSULTANT ARBORIST/BOTANIST – SINGAPORE for Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Mandai Developments, Public Utilities Board Singapore (PUB), Housing Development Board Singapore (HDB), Singapore Armed Forces Recreation Club (SAFRA), Singapore Island Country Club (SICC). Arboriculture assessment and biodiversity surveys for environmental impact assessments prior to construction of recreation villas, PUB pipelines and infrastructure development. This included advice on how to develop while retaining existing biodiversity and trees.

2)      PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION– implementation and maintenance to ensure environmental safeguards.

2007 – 2013     SENIOR ARBORIST, Singapore Botanic Gardens: In charge of project implementation of the new 5-hectare Healing Gardens and 3-hectare Nassim entry precinct. This included advising on the ground design, implementation of construction, collection and planting of over 500 species of medicinal plants from across the world. 2006 – 2007     MANAGER (Parks), Parks Division, National Parks Board of Singapore: In charge of planning, developing and running a 21Ha educational fruit Park. Involved circulation planning, botany, arboriculture, organizing and running public educational programs and managing the logistics of the park. 3)      POST-PROJECT – retroactive environmental assessment to restore/better manage already converted landscapes.

2017/18  FIELD ECOLOGIST & LEAD BOTANIST – INDONESIA, North Sumatra/Riau/Jambi/Kalimantan for Asia Paper and Pulp (APP) engaged by Deltares. The company manages over 2.5million Ha of land in Sumatra, Indonesia of which 1 million Ha is on peat soils for which restoration is a part of their development strategy. The project involved detailed botanical inventories to determine conservation status and health of peatswamp forests within concessions in Sumatra and continuous engagement with the company to improve management of these areas over two years. The company has committed to restoration of the study site.

2018    FIELD ECOLOGIST & LEAD BOTANIST –  MALAYSIA, Peninsular Malaysia engaged by Cargill Inc. for High Conservation Value Assessment for 12 Oil Palm plantations suppliers. The project assessed the conservation value forests remaining within oil palm suppliers for Cargill in Peninsular Malaysia. The work involved detailed vegetation assessments of both the plantations nearby and intact forest followed by reporting back on management of potential conservation areas.

2016 LEAD BOTANIST – MALAYSIA, Sarawak, for WildAsia Pte Ltd for High Conservation Value Forest assessment 15 Oil Palm plantations on peatlands covering 150 km2. Detailed plots and inventories identified key areas for conservation along with basic work improving plantation water management.
